Cookies Policy
What is a cookie?
Cookies are small files that some platforms, such as websites, can install on your computer. They have a variety of functions such as: storing your browsing preferences, gathering statistical information, enabling certain technical functionalities, etc. Sometimes cookies are used to store basic information about the browsing habits of the user or their equipment, and depending on the circumstances, even being able to recognise them.
Why are they important?
Cookies are useful for several reasons. From a technical point of view, they allow web pages to work in a more agile way and adapt to your preferences, for example by storing your language or your country’s currency. They also help website operators to improve their services, thanks to the statistical information they collect through them.
What types of cookies are there?
- Types of cookies according to the entity that manages them:
- Own cookies: are ones that are sent to the user’s computer or device from a computer or domain managed by the publisher themselves and from which the service requested by the user is provided.
- Third-party cookies: are those that are sent to the user’s computer or device from a computer or domain that is not managed by the website’s publisher, but rather by another entity which processes the data obtained through the cookies.
- Types of cookies according to their purpose:
- Technical cookies: are those that allow the user to browse a website, platform or application and use the different options or services that exist on it, including those that the publisher uses to allow the management and operation of the website and enable its functions and services. These may include: controlling data traffic and communication, identifying the session, entering restricted access sections, remembering the elements that make up an order, carrying out the buying process of an order, managing payments, controlling fraud linked to the security of the service, applying for registration or participation in an event, counting the number of visits for the purposes of invoicing licences for the software through which the service (website, platform or application) operates, using security features during browsing, storing content for the broadcasting of videos or sound, enabling dynamic content (for example, animation of loading text or images) or sharing content through social networks. Due to their technical nature, cookies that allow the management, in the most efficient way possible, of the advertising spaces also belong to this category. They are another element of the design or “layout” of the service offered to the user which the publisher may have included on a website, application or platform based on criteria such as the content edited, without collecting information from users for other purposes, such as personalising that particular advertising content or any other content.
- Preference or personalisation cookies: these are cookies that allow information to be remembered so that the user can access the service with certain characteristics that can differentiate their experience from that of other users, such as, for example, the language, the number of results to be shown when the user performs a search, the appearance or content of the service depending on the type of browser the user accesses the service with or the geographical location from which they access the service, etc.
- Analysis or measurement cookies: these are cookies that allow the party responsible for them to monitor and analyse user behaviour on the websites to which they are linked, including the quantification of the number of impacts achieved by the advertisements. The information collected through these types of cookies is used to measure the activity of the websites, in order to introduce improvements based on the analysis of the data on the use made by the service users.
- Behavioural advertising cookies: are cookies that store information about the users’ behaviour obtained through continuous observation of their browsing habits, this enables the development of a specific profile in order to display advertising based on this behaviour.
- Types of cookies depending on how long they remain activated:
- Session cookies: are those designed to collect and store data while the user is accessing a website. These are often used to store information that is only relevant to the provision of the service requested by the user on one occasion (e.g., a list of products purchased) and they disappear at the end of the session.
- Persistent cookies: are those in which the data remains stored on the computer or device and can be accessed and processed for a period defined by the party responsible for the cookie; this can range from a few minutes to several years.
